Description of Location

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1983 (CLN) THE STATION SURFACE MARK WAS FOUND DESTROYED. REFERENCE MARKS ONE AND TWO WERE FOUND IN GOOD CONDITION AS DESCRIBED. A NEW STATION SURFACE MONUMENT WAS SET. A SHORTER DISTANCE OF 0.004 METER (0.013 FT) WAS NOTED TO REFERENCE MARK ONE USING THE 1951 INFORMATION. A LONGER DISTANCE OF 0.024 METER (0.079 FT) WAS NOTED TO REFERENCE MARK ONE USING THE 1963 INFORMATION. A LONGER DISTANCE OF 0.006 METER (0.020 FT) WAS NOTED TO REFERENCE MARK TWO USING THE 1951 INFORMATION. A LONGER DISTANCE OF 0.013 METER (0.043 FT) WAS NOTED TO REFERENCE MARK TWO USING THE 1963 INFORMATION. THE HORIZONTAL ANGLES TO BOTH REFERENCE MARKS AGREED WITH THE 1963 INFORMATION. THE REASON FOR THE DIFFERENCE IN DISTANCES IS UNKNOWN. BOTH REFERENCE MARKS ARE ATOP A SMALL BANK AND PERHAPS THEY HAVE BEEN DISTURBED OF SUFFERED FROST LIFT. THEY ARE BOTH SOLID AND IN GOOD CONDITION AT THIS TIME. A COMPLETE NEW DESCRIPTION OF THE STATION FOLLOWS: STATION IS LOCATED 8 KM (4.95 MI) SOUTHWEST FROM THE CENTER OF AKRON, IN THE NORTH SECTION OF BARBERTON AND AT THE BARBERTON NORTH STANDPIPE. OWNERSHIP--CITY OF BARBERTON. TO REACH THE STATION FROM A POINT WHERE STATE STREET AND FAIRMONT AVENUE CROSSES OVER INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 76 AT THE AKRON AND BARBAETON CITY LINE, GO SOUTHERLY ON FAIRMONT AVENUE FOR 0.3 KM (0.20 MI) TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND GO WEST ON GLENN STREET FOR 0.6 KM (0.35 MI) TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTH ON SUMMIT STREET FOR 0.15 KM (0.10 MI) TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND GO EAST ON EVERGREEN STREET FOR 0.15 KM (0.10 MI) TO THE BARBERTON NORTH STANDPIPE ON THE LEFT AND THE STATION ON THE RIGHT. THE STATION IS A STANDARD NGS DISK STAMPED---BARBERTON 2 1951 1983---, SET INTO THE TOP OF A SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT, 12 INCHES (30 CM) IN DIAMETER, FLUSH WITH GROUND. THE STATION IS LOCATED 0.9 METERS (3.0 FT) NORTH FROM A WITNESS POST, 16.8 METERS (55.1 FT) SOUTH FROM THE CENTER OF THE EXTENDED CENTER OF EVERGREEN STREET, 31.9 METERS (104.7 FT) SOUTH FROM THE SOUTH EDGE OF THE STANDPIPE AND ON THE SOUTH SLOPE OF A GRASS COVERED HILL. REFERENCE MARK NO 1 IS A STANDARD CGS DISK STAMPED---BARBERTON NO 1 1943---, SET INTO THE TOP OF A SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT, 12 INCHES (30 CM) IN DIAMETER, FLUSH WITH GROUND. THE STATION IS LOCATED 29.3 METERS (96.1 FT) NORTH-NORTHWEST FROM THE WITNESS POST, 11.0 METERS (36.1 FT) SOUTHWEST FROM THE SOUTHWEST SIDE OF THE STANDPIPE, AND 9.8 METERS (32.2 FT) NORTH FROM THE CENTER OF THE ROAD, AND 1.2 METERS (3.9 FT) HIGHER THAN THE STATION. REFERENCE MARK NO 2 IS A STANDARD CGS DISK STAMPED---BARBERTON NO 2 1943---, SET INTO THE TOP OF A SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT, 12 INCHES (30 CM) IN DIAMETER, FLUSH WITH GROUND. THE STATION IS LOCATED 33.8 METERS (110.9 FT) NORTHEAST FROM THE WITNESS POST, 11.4 METERS (37.4 FT) SOUTHEAST FROM THE SOUTHEAST EDGE OF THE STANDPIPE AND 5.5 METERS (18.0 FT) NORTH FROM THE CENTER OF THE ROAD, AND 1.2 METERS (3.9 FT) HIGHER THAN THE STATION. FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF THE OBJECTS NEAR THIS STATION WHICH WILL EFFECT THE GPS. THERE IS A EAST-WEST POWERLINE ABOUT 25 METERS (82.0 FT) TO THE NORTH OF THE STATION. THERE IS A CHAIN LINK FENCE AT THE STANDPIPE WHICH IS 32 METERS (105.0 FT) TO THE NORTH. THE STANDPIPE BLOCKS ABOUT 45 DEGREES ABOVE THE HORIZON TO THE NORTH. THERE ARE ANTENNAS, HOUSES, TREES AND NUMEROUS OTHER OBJECTS SURROUNDING THE STATION. RECOVERY NOTE 2013 SCE- THE MONUMENT WAS DESTROYED BY CELL TOWER CONSTRUCTION
