IT IS ON CITY PROPERTY AT THE SITE OF THE WOOSTER AVENUE WATER TANK. (THE KNOB ON THIS TANK MARKS STATION WOOSTER OF THE AKRON CITY SURVEY.) THE MARK IS 20 FEET NW OF AN OPENING AND STAIRWAY IN THE STONE RETAINING WALL AND 13.7 FEET N OF THE WALL. THE DISK IS STAMPED SUMMIT 1943. SURFACE, UNDERGROUND, AND REFERENCE MARKS ARE BRONZE DISKS SET IN CONCRETE. REFERENCE MARK 1 IS 89.51 FEET NE OF THE STATION AND 16 FEET N OF THE E END OF THE RETAINING WALL. THE DISK IS STAMPED SUMMIT NO 1 1943. REFERENCE MARK 2 IS 87.80 FEET SW OF THE STATION, 34.3 FEET E OF THE W END OF THE STONE RETAINING WALL, AND 3 FEET N OF THE WALL. THE DISK IS STAMPED SUMMIT NO 2 1943. NO AZIMUTH MARK WAS SET. AN OBSERVATION TOWER OF STONE CONSTRUCTION WAS USED AS AN AZIMUTH MARK. THIS TOWER IS APPROXIMATELY 1.0 MILE S OF THE STATION ON A PROMINENT RIDGE OVERLOOKING LAKE SUMMIT. THE POINT CENTERED WAS THE FLAGPOLE AT THE TOP CENTER OF THE TOWER. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF U.S. HIGHWAY 21 AND STATE HIGHWAY 261, GO E ON HIGHWAY 261 (WOOSTER AVENUE WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF AKRON) FOR 4.75 MILES TO THE WOOSTER AVENUE TANKS ON THE LEFT. TURN LEFT UP A STEEP GRADE TO THE TOP OF THE HILL, THEN RIGHT FOR 0.05 MILE TO THE STATION. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK - 22 METERS. RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1963 (VBM) THE STATION, REFERENCE MARKS 1 AND 2 WERE RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION. REFERENCE MARK 1 WAS FOUND TO BE .04 FOOT SHORTER THAN PREVIOUSLY MEASURED. REFERENCE MARK 2 WAS FOUND TO BE .03 FOOT SHORTER THAN PREVIOUSLY MEASURED. THE DIRECTION TO THE REFERENCE MARKS CHECKED. THE DESCRIPTIONS ARE ADEQUATE. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK - 21.61 METERS.
