Description of Location

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1977 (JRS) THE STATION WAS RECOVERED AND FOUND TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION. REFERENCE MARKS 1 AND 2 WERE ESTABLISHED AT THIS TIME. THE STATION IS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES SOUTH OF AKRON, 9 MILES NORTH-NORTHWEST OF CANTON, ON THE CANTON AKRON AIRPORT AND AT THE NORTH END OF RUNWAY 23. PERMISSION WAS GRANTED BY MR. FRED KRUM, AIRPORT MANAGER, PHONE 216-499-4221 TO REACH FROM THE AKRON CANTON AIRPORT EXCHANGE OF INTERSTATE 77, GO WEST ON PAVED STREET FOR 0.15 MILE TO A CROSSROAD. TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTH ON PAVED STREET FOR 0.3 MILE TO A SIDE ROAD LEFT, JUPITER STREET, TURN LEFT AND GO WEST FOR 0.1 MILE TO THE ENTRANCE TO THE B.F. GOODRICH PARKING LOT ON THE RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTH THROUGH PARKING LOT FOR 0.05 MILE TO A TAXIWAY. TURN LEFT AND GO NORTHWEST CROSSING TAXIWAY FOR 0.05 MILE TO THE END OF A CABLE FENCE ON NORTH SIDE OF TAXIWAY, TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTH ON THE EDGE OF A RIDGE FOR 0.05 MILE TO THE STATION STATION MARK, STAMPED---CAK E 1976---, IS A NATIONAL OCEAN SURVEY DISK SET IN THE TOP OF A 10-INCH SQUARE CONCRETE POST FLUSH WITH THE GROUND SURFACE. IT IS 142 FEET NORTH OF THE END OF A CABLE FENCE AND 97 FEET EAST OF A HOLDING BAR ON TAXIWAY. REFERENCE MARK 1, STAMPED---CAK E 1976 NO 1 1977---, IS A STANDARD DISK BRAZED TO THE TOP OF A 2-INCH IRON PIPE CEMENTED IN THE GROUND AND FLUSH WITH THE GROUND SURFACE. IT IS 173 FEET NORTH OF THE END OF THE CABLE FENCE AND 79 FEET EAST-NORTHEAST OF THE HOLDING BAR ON TAXIEWAY. REFERENCE MARK 2, STAMPED---CAK E 1976 NO 2 1977---, IS A STANDARD DISK BRAZED TO THE TOP OF A 2-INCH IRON PIPE CEMENTED IN THE GROUND AND FLUSH WITH THE GROUND SURFACE. IT IS 141 FEET NORTH-NORTHWEST OF THE END OF THE CABLE FENCE AND 79 FEET EAST OF THE HOLDING BAR ON TAXIWAY. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK WAS 1.39 METERS.
