Description of Location

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1951 (LWS) STATION IS LOCATED IN THE NORTH SECTION OF BARBERTON NEAR THE BARBERTON MUNI. STANDPIPE (NORTH). IT IS 104.74 FEET SOUTH OF THE SOUTH EDGE OF THE STANDPIPE, 56 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTER OF THE GRAVEL ROAD THE CIRCLES THE STANDPIPE AND 6 FEET EAST OF A WHITE WITNESS POST. THE MARK PROJECTS 6 INCHES AND THE DISK IS STAMPED BARBERTON 2 1951. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS 35.7 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE SOUTHWEST EDGE OF THE STANDPIPE AND 32 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER OF THE GRAVEL ROAD THAT CIRCLES THE STANDPIPE. THE MARK IS FLUSH AND THE DISK IS STAMPED BARBERTON NO 1 1943. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS 37.3 FEET SOUTHEAST OF THE SOUTHEAST EDGE OF THE STANDPIPE AND 18 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER OF THE GRAVEL ROAD THAT CIRCLES THE STANDPIPE. THE MARK IS FLUSH AND THE DISK IS STAMPED BARBERTON NO 2 1943. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAY NO. 5 AND U.S. HIGHWAY NO. 224 (SPRINGFIELD ROAD, WOOSTER ROAD NORTH AND OAKWOOD AVENUE) WHICH IS IN THE NORTH SECTION OF BARBERTON, GO WEST ON OAKWOOD AVENUE FOR 0.2 MILE TO THE INTERSECTION WITH STATE STREET WEST, TURN LEFT ON STATE STREET WEST AND GO 0.1 MILE TO THE INTERSECTION WITH GLENN STREET, TURN RIGHT ON GLENN STREET AND GO 0.15 MILE TO THE INTERSECTION WITH SUMMIT STREET, TURN RIGHT ON SUMMIT STREET AND GO 0.15 MILE TO A DIM GRAVEL ROAD RIGHT, TURN RIGHT AND GO 0.1 MILE ON GRAVEL ROAD TO THE STANDPIPE AND THE STATION AS DESCRIBED. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 30 METERS. RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1963 (VBM) THE STATION, REFERENCE MARKS 1 AND 2 WERE RECOVERED IN GOOD CONDITION. THE DISTANCE TO REFERENCE MARK 1 WAS FOUND TO BE .09 FOOT SHORTER THAN PREVIOUSLY MEASURED. THE DISTANCE TO REFERENCE MARK 2 WAS FOUND TO BE .02 FOOT SHORTER THAN PREVIOUSLY MEASURED. THE DIRECTION TO THE REFERENCE MARKS CHECKED. THE DESCRIPTIONS ARE ADEQUATE. HEIGHT OF LIGHT ABOVE STATION MARK 37.06 METERS. RECOVERY NOTE BY CITY OF AKRON OHIO 1975 (RJF) MARK STAMPED - BARBERTON - 2 CONDITION - O.K. - WITNESS MARKS FOUND O.K. SET WITNESS POSTS WITHIN (2) FEET OF EACH WITNESS MARK - DESCRIPTION ADEQUATE AIRLINE DISTANCE AND DIRECTION FROM NEAREST TOWN- BARBERTON NORTH 1.5 MILES COSE COULD FIND REFERENCE MARKS IN 2004 BUT COULD NOT FIND STATION. A NEW TOWER AND BUILDING ARE AT THIS LOCATION AND IT APPEARS THE STATION HAS BEEN DESTROYED.
